Sketchfab NoAI tag: what it does and what Sketchfab promises
Updated
Sketchfab's NoAI tag is the best known way a 3D artist marks a model as off limits to AI. Its own terms and blog say who owns an upload, and what Sketchfab itself agrees to regardless of the tag.
Ask about my 3D models 3 of the 16 platforms we read can already train on what users put in. Tell us where your models live and we will write back about your library.
Sketchfab says the work stays yours
The blog post that introduced the NoAI and CreatedWithAI tags says "All of the artwork you create and share on Sketchfab belongs to you." and that Sketchfab agrees not to use any of your uploads in datasets for, in the development of, or as inputs to generative AI programs.

Sketchfab's own promise does not depend on the tag
The terms say "Sketchfab agrees, whether or not your User Content is NoAI Content, that it will not use your User Content or license your User Content to third parties" for generative AI datasets, development or inputs. They also say "You remain the owner of your User Content at all times".

Where Sketchfab sits on the board
Sketchfab is one of 4 platforms out of 16 whose terms say they will not train on uploads. ArtStation's terms carry an almost identical promise and the same NoAI vocabulary.

What the tag does not do
The tag records your wish about your own models. It is not a licence to an AI buyer: if you choose to license a library for training, that is a separate agreement you would sign yourself.
